Tararuas<.

The Mitre in the Northern Tararuas is the highest peak in the range at 5154’.

This is the view looking further on from the top of The Mitre towards The Brocket on its western side.

It was high summer when I did this trip, and the normally golden tussock of the tops was even more pronounced in its coloring.

I have discovered the word "brocket" refers to a species of small deer with straight horns native of Central and Southern America.

Acrylic on canvas board 24in x 30in.
