Original Ink Drawing: "Pittosporum" NZ Broadleaf. |
The Pittosporums are a genus of 27 species - all of them attractive, with some variability of form. Many of them have been developed into cultivars and they are used in garden and municipal plantings especially as hedges and windbreaks.
The species shown here - Pittosporum eugenioides, the Lemonwood - forms a beautiful small
tree with pale bright green wavy-edged leaves which when
bruised give off a lemon odor. Will form a striking
single specimen but often used in mass
plantings.
Can reach 40 ft in height. Produces panicles of yellowish-green, heavily scented small flowers.
