The Little Wanganui
River in the northern part of the West Coast of the South Island descends quite steeply to the Tasman Sea. I saw this view of it from the Wanganui Saddle, in the middle of a Wangapeka / Mt Arthur Tablelands trip.
There
are a couple of nice tarns up there and we stopped for a break and lunch on the saddle before turning back and continuing on our planned route. This view has always stuck in my mind as a brief glimpse of something I would like to have explored more.
