Original Acrylic: "Kidney Fern" - NZ Fern |
Kidney Ferns - Trichomanes reniforme - are a very special delight in the New Zealand bush.
They are easily identified because there is nothing else quite like them, and when caught in a patch of sunlight their characteristic kidney-shaped fronds light up, showing clearly the veins radiating outwards, and the sori standing out around the edges of the spore-bearing fronds. In some places they form extensive mats on the forest floor and the roots of trees.
